A change has been made in the “Maritime Waste Implementation Circular” by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, and it was announced on the ministry’s website on September 10, 2022.
It was stated that a new era has begun in the tracking of ship waste, and the “Maritime Waste Implementation Circular” has been amended, specifically targeting ships with a capacity of 12 people or more, including passenger ships, marine tourism vessels, and fishing boats. Due to the adequacy of the waste tank volumes of these ships, the obligation to dispose of waste at the ‘waste reception facility’ within 48 hours after returning to port has been extended to 10 days. In this context, ships and fishing boats that do not dispose of their waste within 10 days and fail to fulfill the required obligations will be subjected to an administrative fine starting from 32,855 Turkish Lira, depending on the nature of the violation and the size of the ship.
