The official letter titled “Raising the Security Level to 3 for Ships Under ISPS Code Regulations” states:
“In order to prevent potential security threats arising from maritime transport and to develop countermeasures, the Ministry ensures the effective implementation of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code for Turkish-flagged vessels and port facilities within Turkey’s maritime jurisdiction, in accordance with the relevant regulations. Information regarding the Security Levels applied by our ISPS Code-compliant ports and Turkish-flagged vessels is regularly updated on the Ministry’s website (https://denizcilik.uab.gov.tr/ISPS_ana_sayfa).
Considering the recent internal conflicts and current developments in Israel and Palestine, and in accordance with the relevant regulations, the ISPS Code Security Level for Turkish-flagged vessels operating in Israeli and Palestinian ports and their surrounding waters has been raised to Level 3 as of October 9, 2023. This decision aims to enhance preparedness for potential security threats, ensure necessary precautions are taken during port stays, and provide early warnings for these vessels.”
