In a statement made by the Ministry of Trade, it was announced that emissions from maritime transport activities have also been included in the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS). In this context, for ships engaged in commercial cargo or passenger transport with a gross tonnage (GRT) of 5,000 or more:
- For voyages from their last visited port to a port within the jurisdiction of a member state,
- For voyages from a port within the jurisdiction of a member state to their next destination,
- For voyages between ports within the jurisdiction of a member state,
greenhouse gas emissions have been included in the EU ETS. Starting from January 1, 2025, this regulation will also apply to:
- Offshore vessels with a GRT of 5,000 or more,
- Offshore vessels with a GRT of less than 5,000 but not less than 400 GRT,
- General cargo vessels with a GRT of less than 5,000 but not less than 400 GRT.
