The Turkish Language Association (TDK) Turkish Dictionary has been updated. In the recently published 12th edition of the Current Turkish Dictionary, the spelling of some words, which have appeared in different forms over the years, has been changed.

With the latest update, it can be observed that some words commonly encountered in daily life have also undergone changes. One of these words is the term ‘Ünvan’, which is used by both public and private sector professionals. Previously spelled as ‘unvan’ in earlier editions, this word has now been updated to “ünvan” in the new edition.

The word ‘ünvan’, defined as “A title, rank, or position held by someone,” is exemplified by a quote from Ziya Gökalp:

“Don’t call me Oğuz, Kayı, Ottoman / Turkish, this name is superior to every title” – Ziya Gökalp

In addition, updates to the Turkish dictionary are also being closely followed by law firms and attorneys. Words frequently encountered in maritime law and maritime trade can be explored here.
