A notice regarding the amendment to the communiqué on the installation and specifications of AIS Class-B CS (Automatic Identification System) devices on ships, issued by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, was published in the Official Gazette No. 31948 on September 9, 2022.

According to the communiqué:

• The scope of the communiqué was amended to: “This communiqué applies to Turkish-flagged ships operating on national voyages and natural and legal persons who will use AIS Class-B CS devices as mentioned in Article 6.”

• In the 6th article, titled “Ships and Installation Dates,” a new paragraph (4) was added: “Ships with Class-A AIS devices that operate on international voyages and are located in areas where a system for tracking local maritime traffic has been established within the administrative areas of local port authorities, excluding those working in local maritime traffic, will be exempt from the AIS Class-B CS device when they start operating in our national waters.”

• In the 10th article, titled “Sanctions,” the following text was added: “ARTICLE 10 – (1) The AIS Class-B CS devices mentioned in this communiqué must comply with the basic requirements for minimum safety conditions in accordance with the Radio Equipment Directive (2014/53/EU) published in the Official Gazette No. 31295 dated November 5, 2020. The devices will be monitored during the import stage as per the Radio Equipment Import Inspection Notice (Product Safety and Inspection: 2022/8), published in the Official Gazette No. 31706 on December 31, 2021 (The notice is updated annually). AIS Class-B CS devices will be licensed through an application made to the Radio Operation Department within the General Directorate of Coastal Safety, based on the conformity certificate issued by the Administration, in accordance with Article 42 of the Electronic Communication Law No. 5809 dated November 5, 2008. Those who act contrary to the provisions of the Radio Equipment Directive (2014/53/EU) or engage in operations will be subject to the provisions of the Product Safety and Technical Regulations Law No. 7223 dated March 5, 2020.”
