The meal allowance for seafarers on ships without a catering service has been increased from 80 lira to 98 lira.

In the issue of the Official Gazette dated March 8, 2023, and numbered 32126, it was stated that the Seafarers’ Meal Allowance Determination Committee convened on February 23 under the chairmanship of the Director General of Occupational Health and Safety, Muhittin Bilge. Following deliberations with the full participation of the members, the meal allowance for 2023 was unanimously set at 98 TL.

The decision noted that the current meal allowance of 80 lira had been published in the Official Gazette on September 13, 2022, and that due to rising food prices over time, this amount had become insufficient under current conditions. It was deemed necessary to re-determine the meal allowance, and it was agreed that setting a new allowance nationwide under the authority granted by the relevant regulation would be beneficial.

Accordingly, it was unanimously decided that the daily cash meal allowance for each seafarer, applicable to all coastal areas and lakes, would be set at a net amount of 98 lira.
